The Sashiko Print, by Westerly Goods

We began westerly goods with the goal of creating better days in the rain, by making the best umbrellas in the world. 

New in Collection No.2, our Sashiko print pays homage to Japanese indigo and textile culture. Sashiko began with a functional purpose, tracing back to farmers who would don indigo-dyed jackets and shirts made of homespun fabrics. They would use these stitching and quilting techniques to reinforce and mend, making their clothes stronger and more durable to withstand their work and the elements. Over time, sashiko evolved into an art form - with intricate designs and embroidery detail - but it never lost its functional roots.

This melding of beauty and function is something that we aim to deliver in all of our products. Built on a foundation of function and purpose, our umbrellas use modern materials to improve durability, and subtle design details and unique canopy prints to create the visible styling. Designed by Cath Lebrun, the Sashiko print is a photograph quality digital print, giving the layered appearance of indigo patchwork. 

All of our prints are unique and versatile, and will only be found on Westerly Goods umbrellas. The Sashiko print is available in the Commander, Scout and Drifter.
